Meet the Faerie

Hello I am Rebecca the creative force, designer and free spirit behind the Bejeweled Faerie. Believe it or not I started making jewelry about 3 or 4 years ago because I always fell asleep whenever I tried to sit down to relax and watch a movie no matter how bad I wanted to see the movie. Always on the go being a full time student and working full time I needed a way to unwind with out going instantly comatose. What I quickly found was that making jewelry not only kept me awake while I was watching movies or whatever activity was going on But it also provided a creative outlet that until I started exercising I didn't realize how much this was lacking from my life. I have always enjoyed sewing and making my won clothing a costumes, a skill I acquired with my first job at the age of 16 working for Joann Fabrics. But it is a little more challenging to set up a sewing station from your living room sofa. I still sew, my favorite is renaissance style costumes. I love costumes. If it were up to me everyone would have costume Friday instead of casual Friday and come to work dressed up as their alter ego.

For the most part I am completely self taught. I have never taken any classes for jewelry making. However I do have plans to do so in the future as I plan on learning more advanced techniques in metalworking. Sewing is another story. My mother taught me a good deal of what I know and have since developed those skills primarily by trial and error.

Much of my inspiration is drawn from nature, even though the is not overtly expressed with in my work this is often how I come up with different color combinations and what I make is often an abstract reflection of what I have seen or thought about. I also look back to old Celtic cultures and the renaissance and medieval time periods.
